Prepare the soil

Prepare the soil

I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you. For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. —Psalm 56:12–13

A simple and familiar companionship with God, in which you can tell him all your troubles with perfect trust in him, and in which you can ask him to comfort and strengthen you, will never exhaust you. It will nourish your heart. —François Fénelon, The Complete Fénelon

Prayer of the Day
Dear Lord, when I read today’s Gospel lesson I wonder what type of soil I allow myself to be. I like to think of myself as good soil, but when I see the fruit I produce, I realize that I haven’t made enough effort to prepare the soil. Jesus, cut away the underbrush and clear the way for me to truly hear your word. Amen.
