Meet Casey Pawelek, author of “Look and Learn: Words for Catholic Kids”, and learn how this terrific book came to be...
“I wouldn’t call myself a cradle catholic. I was baptized as a baby but consider middle school to be the beginning of my faith journey. I missed the early years of faith formation, bible stories, and sacramental prep. I often found myself feeling timid and self-conscience around my church peers. In comparison, I was behind and lacked simple knowledge of our faith. Several years later I was well formed in my spirituality and married with two young kids that I enrolled in a faith formation program called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I was impressed when my daughter came home telling me about a ‘work’ she had done with the chalice and paten. “What is a paten,” I asked my 5 year old. And she taught me. SHE taught ME. It’s funny now to think that I didn’t know what that was. I see it every Mass. But it was incredible to experience what my children do in learning the name of an important piece of the Eucharistic preparation; engaged, unified, confident. I wished I had that as a kid. That is my hope with Look and Learn: Words for Catholic Kids, that parents and children learn something new and feel a part of something amazing, our Catholic Faith. And then even better, I hope they go and teach it to someone else.” —Case Pawelek
