Experience the Church of the Transfiguration on Cape Cod

In celebration of Christ’s Transfiguration this past Sunday,
explore this beautiful church on Cape Cod.

The Church of the Transfiguration is the home church of a monastic community in the Benedictine tradition. A contemporary architectural expression of a fourth-century Christian basilica, the Church of the Transfiguration is dedicated to our Savior, as revealed in the glorious light of his Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. Members of the monastic Community of Jesus, together with artists from Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, and the United States, translated the story of salvation through carved wood and stone, mosaic, and fresco images, and bronze and glass sculpture, which fill the church.

This visually stunning book tells the story of how the church was built, the lives that were shaped by that process, and the daily prayer that takes place within its walls.

The Church of the Transfiguration is among the thirty-four great cathedrals in the world featured in Places of Light: The Gift of Cathedrals to the World by Gernot Candolini and Jennifer Brandon.

“Places of Light opens a broader understanding and deeper appreciation of the numerous, nameless and bold visionaries who dared to express in glass and stone messages for the human spirit.” —The Reverend Dr. Lauren Artress
