Embrace what we have heard
Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I walk before the Lord in the land of the living. —Psalm 116:7–9
This is the first of the two directives that the disciples received—“Listen to Jesus.” Jesus tells us that we are to “live on . . . every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). Therefore, we can’t afford to interrupt God when he speaks to us—especially when he tells us to be quiet through the mouth of people we trust. They will help us embrace what we have heard and not miss the point. —Ronald E. Minor, When the Road Seems Too Steep
Prayer of the Day
Lord Jesus, please teach me the qualities of a child that attract your help. Help me to put down all defenses and pretenses and self-reliance—impediments to the kingdom of heaven. Amen.
