As the first week of Advent begins Jesus urges us to “keep watch…”{ Mt 24:42}

as to the time of his return. How interesting that in the five verses that proceed this passage, the people are all engaged in busy activities of daily living.  They are at work in the fields or at grinding wheels. They are attending weddings. The urgency of the moment can easily obscure what God is trying to tell us.

So as we embark on the Advent season, let us guard the quiet moments of worship, prayer, or Scripture reading that enable us to stay connected to the God who is moving and urging us to “keep watch.”
